The Greatest Garage Rock 45 Of All Time: The Keggs

so this band the Keggs released one 45 ever and it fucking rules the universe. legend has that only like 75 copies were ever pressed and most were burned in a house fire and the lead singer got decapitated in a motorcycle crash. then the songs got issued on those Back From The Grave comps Crypt Records put out. i don't know how much of that legend is true and i don't care, it's a good story. regardless "To Find Out" is right up there with "Psycho" by The Sonics and Bunker Hill's "The Girl Can't Dance" on my list of raw loose garage rock and rollers. hell when you listen to it you'll probably think the Black Lips should be paying these dudes some royalties. regardless listen to both songs and then hunt them down. fucking amazing.

this band is called The Golden Cups. they sound kinda like a Japanese version of the Zombies. really great pop song.

French Electro Punk Mayhem

Ah, Metal Urbain...how I love your simple french punk rock tunes. This song is called "Panik" it was their 1st single back in 1977.


Metal Urbain were among the 1st punk bands to exist in France and were the 1st band ever to release anything on the famous Rough Trade label. They combined their love of the Sex Pistols with German electronic music to become the 1st electropunk band thus inspiring future generations of industrial rockers like Big Black and rock bands who would use drum machines like the Jesus & Mary Chain on Automatic. Metal Urbain released 3 singles and 1 record before breaking up in 79. You can get all their early stuff on a comp called Anarchy In Paris that was released in the US back in 2004. I recommend it for any fans of early punk/post-punk or just musically oddities.

Great Lost Punk Bands Of Yesteryear: The Screamers

the screamers are right next to the Germs in order of importance in the bands that came out of the late 70s LA Punk scene. just two keyboards and a drummer and one of the best front men in punk history and no guitars...how revolutionary. too bad they never recorded a studio album. good luck trying to get your hands on their hard to find demos and live recordings. i recommend the rereleased Target video for anyone who is interested.
