Can't Hardly Wait: The Replacements Are Playing Some Reunion Shows!!!

The greatest American rock n' roll band of the 1980s is gonna play their first shows in 22 years! granted Bob Stinson is still dead, so a real Mats reunion remains impossible, but Tommy Stinson and Paul Westerberg are gonna be on stage together playing some of best goddamn songs ever written and that's about as good as it's gonna get.

songs that changed my life: Can't Hardly Wait

Can't Hardly Wait by mmr421

Paul Westerberg "Can't Hardly Wait" (on SNL, 1993)...a pretty significant moment in my music loving life.

i think/pretty damn sure/know this was the first time i ever heard this song. i already owned Let It Be and Tim and Paul Westerberg's solo album 14 songs, but i hadn't delved further into the Replacements' catalogue yet by 1993. the unreleased Tim version of "Can't Hardly Wait" is tied with the Velvet's "Pale Blue Eyes" and Beach Boys "Girl Don't Tell Me" for my favorite song of all time. i can't even imagine how many times i've heard it. how many mix tapes/cds i've put it on. how many times i was drunk and depressed at 19 years old listening to it in a parked car crying about some fucking girl who ruined my summer and wondering if i was ever gonna get the fuck out of the shithole that is Augusta, GA before i found myself jumping off some "crummy water tower"

....anyways this is my favorite live performance of the song that i've seen.

The Replacements doing what they do best. Being drunk.

it's 9am Sunday morning. i am a little hungover after a night of rock n roll foolishness.

here's an interview from 1984 with the Replacements who are all drunk as shit.

Bands I Love: The Replacements

THE REPLACEMENTS

#4 on my favorite bands of all time list.

number of years i have been listening to them: 1986? this is a question i can’t give an accurate answer to. but pretty much since i was a kid.

how i got into them: my dad had Tim on record and so it's one of those albums i discovered when i started going through his music and stealing stuff.

favorite album: Let It Be, Tim, and Sorry Ma Forgot To Take Out the Trash are all equally tied.

favorite songs: can’t hardly wait (the unreleased tim version), i will dare, answering machine, left of the dial, sixteen blue, shiftless when idle

direct influence on my musical taste: my deep love of sloppy, drunk, heartbroken, rock and roll owes everything to these guys.

Replacements/Alex Chilton show

how fucking rad would it have been to be at this show?

actually knowing the Replacements they probably got wasted and played a bunch of shitty covers and Alex Chilton probably sucked...but in my fantasy world this would've been awesome.
