a quick thought on black metal
when Ozzy and Satan invented Metal i don’t think they were thinking a bunch of Dungeons and Dragons dorks in Sweden or wherethefuckevercountrynoonecaresabout would decide to dress up like gay-KISS/ pretend-Vikings and murder each other. Metal is about how many chicks you can fuck and how much cocaine and booze it takes to kill you, didn’t you get the memo?
poseurs ruin everything.

The Velvet Underground's "Squeeze"
file under: mistakes your favorite band made that you weren’t even aware of.
like all things dumb in rock n roll, trying to replace your founding singer/main songwriter (in this case Lou Reed) with some random dude just to keep the band going is always a BAD FUCKING IDEA. this album is super rare/totally out of print. i’ve heard some mp3s of it a long time ago, its not actually that bad. it kinda sounds like the Allman Brothers to be honest. the song "little jack" is actually pretty fucking good (you can listen to all the songs on youtube) and the track "Caroline" is fucking awesome, i mean it holds up with almost everything on Loaded. but it is in NO WAY a Velvet Underground album. the band has completely disowned it and i can't imagine where you could find a copy...but i wish someone would rerelease it.
its still better than that record the Doors made after Jim Morrison died.

Happy Birthday, Boss
i stole this from Little Pat who mentioned on Facebook that it's Springsteen's birthday. "Growin' Up" of course is played accordingly. love this fucking song more than anything.
Julian Casablancas - 11th Dimension
so the Strokes frontman is set to drop his 1st solo album next month. this is the first single. it's okay...sort of new wave/dancey. it sounds kinda like if Julian was singing over a mid-80s New Order (think "True Faith") track. it'll be tough for him to top Albert Hammond Jr.'s surprisingly enjoyable solo records.

JIMI GETTIN' HIS HEAVY METAL ON
who says Hendrix wasn’t a punk? so this performance by THE EXPERIENCE was on a British tv show hosted by bubblegum popster (and total hottie) Lulu. Jimi and Co were supposed to play their hit "Hey Joe" but decided to bust into a heavy as fuck cover of Cream’s "Sunshine of Your Love" after the first verse of "hey Joe". i love the feedback drenched intro.
just for good measure, here's a full 8 minute version of the band jamming out on "Sunshine Of Your Love". listen to that fucking bass. so badass! this version kills Cream's.
Hey, We Are On The Cover Of The Flagpole
Hey look mom, they put me on the cover of a magazine.
the FLAGPOLE wrote a nice article about the Kindercore Records/ Owl Scooters music festival this weekend. (Thurs-Sat for all the kids keeping score at home.) tons of awesome local Athens/Atlanta bands plus you might win a scooter. this is mostly gonna result in me being drunk for 4 days straight instead of just 2. such is life.
